Christmas Afghans

Merry Christmas to all

Here are the 3 afghans I finally finished for my grand kids. All are hdc. The yarn color changes is the only difference, but that made such a differenc. Each suits the child's personality perfectly. By the way the Loved them. I was glad because for a child getting an afghan could be as bad as a bag of under cloths.

Happy Holidays!

Lion Suede Roses and Lace Scarf

I love the feel of Lion Brand Suede yarn. Here is my Roses and Lace Scarf made in this lovely yarn, modeled by one of my DILs. Even though this is a bulkier yarn I did not increase the hook size as I wasn't looking for a larger footprint. The result is more compact, fluffy stitches. Still very appealing.

OMG I Got The Cover Shot!

While reading a article in Talking Crochet today I happened to scan down the page and saw the subscription layout for Crochet! Magazine. Imagine my surprise and elation when I saw the January issue with my scarf gracing the cover. I am completely surprised and overjoyed. In my wildest imagination I had not expected to have a cover. This is only my second pattern to be accepted. And that alone has had me on cloud nine. I had to email everyone in my address book and squeal for a moment. Thank you to all you for your notes of congratulations. Now I am geeked to get on with other patterns that are still on the hooks.

Life Changes

Two funerals and a Wedding
That is how October has begun. My father in law (Hershel) passed away after a lengthy illness. He and my mother in law (Jean) live in West Virgina. So Rick and I took off down there to help her make the arrangements and drive her back to Ohio. Hershel had been a pastor down there for many years so first there was a service at their church, then we had him shipped up to Ohio were the family gathered and we had another service and the internment. He will be greatly missed. Rick did a great amount of driving this week with the two trips back and forth between WV and Oh. Exhaustion coupled with grief has his immune system down and he now has a bad cold. He says he is doing okay for now. Jean also claims that she is doing fine, but we plan to go back down to check on her at the end of the month when I finish the current show that I am working on.

Today we went to my nephew Levi's wedding. His bride Stephanie was beautiful. He was so handsome. The color theme was autumn so just imagine how warm and wonderful the wedding was. I had not been to the church they were married in before it was impressive to say the least. Rick said it was like the Ark turned upside down because of the shape of the very very high ceiling that accommodated the pipes for the organ. It was a lovely service and the reception was a lot of fun with lodes of family and good food and music and dancing. A great time. Congratulations again to the bride and groom also to their parents.

I am back at the office with Rick doing the clerical work for him. Our daughter who had been doing this job for several years, wants to spend this year at home with her youngest son before he starts school next year. So I am back in the office as well as working on the build for a new opera at the theater. I am doing alright with it so far. One week under my belt. Less crochet time though.

I have not even picked up a hook this week. I have been able to corresponde a bit on the crochet forums re: CGOA education committee business. That is moving right along. I am hoping Rick has a golf game tomorrow so I have the whole house quiet and I can get at the project I started on the drive to WV. I think I could have it done by days end if given the time to work on it. Here's hoping.

County Fair Winners

We went to the fair with our youngest son, his new bride, our youngest daughter, her husband, and two of our grandsons. The little boys were ecstatic that they were finally big enough to get on the big rides with an adult. The day was beautiful, The sugar waffles excellent, and I took three blue ribbons. All in all a fantastic day.

Off to the Fair

It is County Fair time again and I have dropped off my entries in the crochet division. I have a hat and scarf in Fashion Accessories, A white thread oval doily in Starched Doilies, A very large table hot pad in 'Hot Pads and Oven Mitts', and a thread skirt under 'Not otherwise listed'.

The opening ceremonies are today and tomorrow the 'Round House' where all the entries are displayed, will open. I usually do OK, but I got a late start this year and worked up to the last minute getting finished so I am not overly confident. Wish me luck and I will add more to this once I have scoped out the fair this weekend.

Scotti McDoogle

This is my puppy Scotti McDoogle. This picture is when I got him 4 months ago. He is Schnauzer. But I have wanted a Scotti Dog (Scottish Terrier) all my life so when this little pumpkin came my way he got stuck being my Scotty Dog. He keeps me company and helps me get out for the walks my knee so badly needs.

He is much bigger now and yesterday he started lifting his hind leg to go pee-pee, so today I made the terible appointment for him. He will be baking a little higher come next Tuesday. Poor baby. He is a great dog. He likes to lay on the rug beside me while I work on the computer or work on patterns. And if my yarn or hook falls to the floor he retrives it for me and actually puts it up on my lap. He is a great helper. The groomer is also coming to make him less sheep-dog like. Yea the groomer comes to me isn't that great. She does a fantastic job too. Shout Out to Gina of Thorp Pet Groomers.

Well I have sent my County Fair Entry in and don't have the Starched Doily started yet so back to he hooks I go. Have a great day.

Wishing I were there

Chain Link begins today.
http://www.knitandcrochetshow.com/summershow.asp
I decided to pay on my charge cards rather than run them back up. A prudent financial decision..... probably, especially in this economic climate; but I sure do wish I were there. Today I am missing professional development day with all my favorite designers and editors and just crocheters, and the Market. Oh man all those yarns just waiting to become something wonderful..... I wish I were there. There is something to be said about a gathering of folk who share your passions. It feels as though I am missing a family reunion. I won't lament anymore about it - but wish all who are there all the best.
Have a great time and I WILL see you next year at Chain Link.

knitters and crocheters are all aflutter
they have come to share yarn passions with one another

classes for beginners and experts alike
and yarns, books and wonders in the market to try

some new volunteers for the boards take a seat

special tributes for years of success
and a fashion show to complete all the rest
